Reshoring: E.D.&A. has been manufacturing electronics in Belgium for 10 years
More and more companies are choosing to bring back production and development from low-wage countries. The demand for quality, speed and flexibility plays a very important role in this. This trend had already started before the corona pandemic and is now only accelerating.
Successful reshoring of electronics manufacturing
"We at E.D.&A. took the step in 2012 to source the production process of custom-made electronics from low-wage countries. Ten years later, this does certainly not do any harm to us as a Belgian electronics manufacturer. By focussing on far-reaching automation and by fully aligning our electronics development with our own production equipment, we are able to produce and test large series of custom-made electronic controllers very efficiently, all in-house," explains Managing Director Gert D'Handschotter. "Since 2016, we have therefore proudly carried the label of Factory of The Future. Every three years, we must be able to demonstrate that we have made great strides in terms of seven transformations (including digitisation & robotisation)."
Stable process for electronic design
With an extensive and experienced team of more than forty engineers, we develop hardware and software entirely to customer specifications (custom-made electronics development). Extensive hardware and software testing is also important. For instance, we have our own "Testfarm" to test the written software code at night. Every morning, the results are delivered to the engineers. With the recent new building, we have also invested heavily in a fully compliant SAR (Semi Anechoic Room) so that we can perform all EMC testing completely in-house.
One-stop-shopping
Increasingly, we unburden our customer by not only developing and producing the electronics, but also building them into an enclosure together with the right cabling. For some of this work, we work together with local social enterprises. In this way, we engage people with occupational limitations.
