No party (yet), but new building for 40th anniversary
This month E.D.&A. celebrates its 40th anniversary. "A big party for E.D.&A.'s fortieth anniversary is not yet on the program in view of the corona measures, but there is reason enough to celebrate," echoes Gert D'Handschotter, owner and managing director at E.D.&A.
E.D.&A. grows further
Family business E.D.&A. started forty years ago on a small scale, making customer-specific electronics designs in an attic room. The first complete Belgian PLC: the "EDA PLC" was introduced on the market and gradually the exclusive focus shifted to custom-made electronics controllers for machines and appliances. In 2012 E.D.&A. also started with electronics production in-house, which continues to expand to this day.
Expansion of production and office area at the same location
Even in these strange times, we at E.D.&A. did not sit still. Our company building was doubled in size to 8.000 m². This was necessary to steer our growth in the right direction and to create sufficient space for all our (new) colleagues and additional machine lines. For example, the additional SMD line will triple our production capacity and the additional test lines will also greatly increase our capacity there.
As with the current building from 2014, the starting points for the design of the expansion were: sustainable, plenty of daylight, comfortable for our employees and energy efficient. Hence our choice of a lot of "green" technologies ranging from geothermal heat pumps, balanced ventilation with heat recovery, lighting with daylight sensors, photovoltaic solar panels, green roofs, etc. Additional showers are also being provided, as more and more employees are taking their bikes to work.
Full EMC testing in-house
The second floor of the new building is fully equipped as a development and testing area for R&D. There you will also find the unique "fully compliant 3m Semi Anechoic Chamber (SAC)". This will enable our engineers to perform fully in-house EMC tests.
Our Test & Repair engineers and our colleagues from FTA (Final Test Assemby) have already moved into the new building. The final finishing phase is now underway so that the office area can also be put into use.
