Importance of EMC in an electronics design.

EMC = ElectroMagnetic Compatibility?

In the development of electronics, ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is a very important consideration. In short, ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC) means that devices function correctly in an EMC environment:

  • without interference with other devices (emission)
  • without interference from other devices (immunity)

With electronics in your machine or appliance becoming increasingly sophisticated and important, EMC is rightly getting more and more attention.

EMC, even for your product?

EMC ensures the correct operation of various equipment in a common electromagnetic environment. There are a number of harmonized standards to demonstrate compliance with applicable EMC directives.

The aim is to limit non-intentional radiation from devices and to guarantee a certain minimum quality regarding suspectibility. Also with your machine or device! Failure to comply with the applicable standards can have far-reaching consequences (e.g., not being able to market your products due to non-EMC compatibility).

Importance of EMC in an electronics design. Background and tips.

EMC sometimes receives attention rather late in a design, resulting in longer design times and higher costs. We prefer to take EMC into account right at the start of the development process of the electronic controller. Through our own SAR (Semi Anechoic Room), we can continuously test for this (during the entire development process). There are various tests for electromagnetic compatibility and interference, both at device level and at platform and system level. These cover both emission and immunity.

A well-thought-out EMC design is essential. Download now the slides of the webinar dd 14.12.2022 on the importance of EMC in an electronics design via the button below.
