Digital assistance RPA

Everyone is talking about the digitisation of our economy. We can no longer imagine our world without digitisation, but what impact does this evolution have at E.D.&A.? When we think of computerisation, it may well be the further digitisation of the production process that first comes to mind. However, automation within other departments is also here to stay. 

Digitisation: new steps

Our accounting department is using Robotic Process Automation (RPA or, as internally known, Robot “Eddy”). RPA is a form of intelligent automation in which a “software robot” takes over recurrent and time-intensive tasks within software applications. This “software robot” - comparable to a “digital assistant” - is not a physical robot but can instead simulate certain actions within software programs. The RPA application can automatically start programs, send e-mails and also search, select, copy and paste data, among other things.

Time for other tasks

This digital assistant needs less than an hour a day for the automatic process of the sales invoices and a substantial part of the purchase invoices. However, it can be deployed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so it may become interesting to use it for other departments in the future. Colleagues are less burdened with routine tasks and thus have more time for other matters. It will enable our organisation to raise its quality standard further.

Innovative

In Belgium, RPA is already being used frequently in the banking sector, but only to a lesser extent by small to medium-sized companies. In this respect, E.D.&A. is once again taking an innovative step forward!
