Data platform helps hardware engineers make the right choices

The recently purchased data platform supports our engineers even better when choosing certain components during the hardware development process. The advantages of the new data-platform can be summarized in 4 major groups:

  • By reading the BOM (Bill Of Material) we can easily issue certificates of compliance. All products are checked for compliance with the applicable REACH* and RoHS** legislation.
  • We also check our products for SVHC*** and inform our customers about this.
  • Through the platform, we are taking steps towards 'Design for Disassembly'. The components in the BOMs are reviewed in terms of their environmental impact. The platform also proposes alternative components that score better in terms of the environment. Naturally, this is an important aspect of sustainable entrepreneurship.
  • The components of our products are all assessed for availability. Via 'alerts', we are informed if components threaten to become obsolete.

*REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of CHemicals. It is an EU regulation to limit the chemical risks for the environment or human health. E.D.&A. continues to follow up the developments of REACH and is determined to remain committed as an environmentally responsible company.

**RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. This is an EU directive to ban hazardous substances in electronic products. Because of the rapid increase in electronic waste (including hazardous substances), the EU has drawn up this RoHS directive. E.D.&A. exclusively uses RoHS-compliant components and produces its articles RoHS-free.

***SVHC stands for Substances of Very High Concern. If an SVHC is used in our products (in a concentration of more than 0.1% by weight), as a manufacturer/supplier we are obliged to inform our (B2B) customers about this.
