High-Performance Electronics for Premium Speed Pedelecs

Consumer market

For this speed pedelec manufacturer, E.D.&A. contributed to the development of a new generation of drive and control electronics. The challenge was to combine a front-wheel motor and a mid-drive motor into one reliable system capable of withstanding vibrations, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and EMC influences, while also being ready for series electronics production by E.D.&A..

Smart and scalable solution

Together with the customer, E.D.&A. developed a modular architecture based on an STM32MP1 platform running embedded Linux. Two dedicated STM32 microcontrollers control the front-wheel motor and mid-drive motor respectively, ensuring an optimal riding experience and a consistent pedalling cadence.

All components communicate via a robust CAN bus, while press-fit connectors provide reliable battery and motor connections, even under demanding conditions.

From prototype to industrialization

The project was executed using a co-design approach. Following the customer's initial prototype, E.D.&A. carried out the design review and industrialization of the system. This included hardware optimization, the implementation of Design for Test (DFT) functionality, and pre-compliance EMC testing in its own EMC test facilities.

The result

The result is a future-proof electronic architecture that combines performance, reliability, and manufacturability (DFM). Thanks to the close collaboration between the customer and E.D.&A., an innovative speed pedelec was developed, ready for the next generation of mobility solutions.
