We see the UV disinfection controller used in particular, again and again, in the food industry, hospitals, chemical industry, sewage purification, etc. For already nearly ten years E.D.&A. supplies electronic controllers (V5 HPC®) for the larger projects of this customer. For the smaller devices, that were equipped with dated electronics, they need a new controller concept. E.D.&A. developed a custom-made controller for the market of the small and medium-sized devices.

Salmon is one of the most consumed fish in the world and the market is still steadily growing. The quality of salmon is strongly dependent on its life cycle. A great deal of attention is paid to this during the breeding stage. The salmon is bred in its natural environment such as the Marine Harvest salmon farm in the small town of Glomfjord. This picturesque little town is situated on one of the many fjords in the northwest of Norway. The salmon are cultivated here from spawn up to an average size of 20 cm, to then be handled or cultivated further in other salmon farms. During this first stage of the salmon's life, the various natural behaviour patterns of the salmon are disturbed as little as possible through simulations. Here, for example, you must think about the imitation of a current so that the fish keep moving.
As we said, a great deal of attention is paid to the natural environment of the salmon. This brings us back to the water in the tanks in which the salmon grow up, at the salmon farm in Glomfjord. This water is, with the help of pump installations, obtained from the neighbouring fjord. In addition the quality of the water is safeguarded by our customer's filtration system, a world-wide supplier of water and surface filters. The filter installation consists of ultra-violet lamps that exercise influence on the DNA, cell membranes, proteins and enzymes of micro-organisms.

The UV lamps are intelligently driven by a V5 High Performance Controller (HPC®) that manages the filter process with the help of various sensors. The UV lamps should burn at varying intensities, depending upon the number of bacteria needing to be destroyed, thus prolonging the life span of the lamps. The number of bacteria to be destroyed is determined by various factors such as water transmission, temperature and turbidity. The software was developed completely by the customer himself.
The V5 HPC® is equipped with a data logging memory, which registered the main process parameters over several months. Via a modem connection this installation can be fully controlled remotely and the registered data read and analysed.
